Michael S. Schmidt, a Washington correspondent for The New York Times, will discuss what it has been like to cover some of the most significant stories of the past decade. Schmidt, 33, began his career at the Times in 2005 as a clerk on the foreign desk. He went on to cover the steroids scandal in baseball, the war in Iraq and national security issues. Schmidt will talk about what it has been like to uncover stories that have had a direct impact on the country. In 2015, he broke the story that Hillary Clinton had exclusively used a private email account when she was secretary of state. This year, he broke the story that President Trump had asked the F.B.I director James Comey to end the investigation into Mr. Trump's former national security adviser, Michael Flynn. Schmidt will discuss how the media landscape has changed since he began his career at The Times and where he believes the industry is headed.
