Soprano Eve Edwards '86 and Lecturer Jerry Kalstein examine the heroines of some of the most popular operas of the verismo and Puccini eras. Discussion covers an overview of the operas as well as analysis of the distinctiveness of these characters. Included are musical selection clips relating to these heroines, drawn from staged and concert performances featuring Eve and friends.

Soprano, producer, and educator, Eve Edwards '86, is a much-sought-after soloist in the mid-Atlantic region. She has performed over 50 leading roles in the operatic repertory including Mimi, Cio-Cio San, Violetta, Nedda, and many others. Companies and orchestras with which she has appeared include Boheme Opera NJ, Amato Opera, Pennsylvania Lyric Opera Theater, Buck Hill/Skytop Music Festival, Lansdowne Symphony, Orchestra Society of Philadelphia, and more. She enjoys an active schedule of concerts featuring both operatic and art song repertoire. A graduate of Cornell University, Eve is the founder of Delphi Opera, producing operas, concerts, and educational outreach programs, providing enrichment for future generations of arts lovers and participants. 

Lecturer Jerry Kalstein is the President of the Board of Directors of Boheme Opera NJ. After retiring from a career in business, he has devoted his time to the promotion of operatic productions and the presentation of opera education programs. He has also narrated many opera concerts in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and attended opera performances in major opera houses all over the world.
