The Seminar Book Club
What's between a book club and a seminar? We invite you to join our new group of literary enthusiats and find out!
The Seminar Book Club will meet once a month in the Big Red Tap and Grill. Serious fiction or non-fiction, both classics and newer works, will be chosen for literary and intellectual merit. Each book will be chosen by a "seminar leader" who will then lead the discussion.
Meenakshi Chakraverti, Club member and Cornell PhD in social anthropology, will play the role of seminar leader for the first book or two. Once the book club gets going, she would welcome volunteers to take on the role of seminar leader for further books and discussions. The seminar leader will prepare to lead and deepen a discussion and is invited to send additional articles that raise good questions or provide additional perspectives on the material of the book.
Plan to meet up in the Big Red Tap & Grill, get a drink (and some food if you want!), and talk about the book, pushing both intellectual inquiry and having fun!
For February 2023, Meenakshi has selected: The Swerve (2011) by Stephen Greenblatt (Winner of the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize)
