In Person - Brooklyn Bridge and Brooklyn Heights at Sunset Tour

Join us on a walk across the "Great Bridge" - once the longest suspension bridge in the world - as we learn about its creation and early history. We'll discuss the work of the Roebling family, the designers of the bridge, and the sacrifice and dramatic story of the immigrant workers who built it. We'll hear about Stephen Brody, the only person originally credited with jumping off the bridge - and living to tell about it, and PT Barnum, whose spectacular theatrics instilled confidence in New Yorkers to cross the span. Then it's off to Brooklyn Heights, New York's first suburb and historic district. Stops include Plymouth Church, where abolitionist Henry Ward Beecher preached and Lincoln and Walt Whitman worshiped; a stop on the Underground Railroad used to free slaves; the Truman Capote residence where he penned Breakfast at Tiffany's; and the home of Arthur Miller, where he courted Marilyn Monroe. The tour ends with a glorious sunset over Manhattan Island and the Statue of Liberty at the Brooklyn Promenade.

4:45pm-6:45pm tour, $30 per person. Reservations are required and are considered final sale on Wednesday, October 6^th. Participants should be fully vaccinated and mask wearing is encouraged. The group will meet at the statue of Ben Franklin at the corner of Spruce St and Park Row, in front of Pace University entrance and across from City Hall. Subway: 4,5,6 to Brooklyn Bridge/Hall. The tour ends at Brooklyn Promenade.
