AN EXCLUSIVE SCREENING AND Q&A WITH ARTEMIS JOUKOWSKY

Defying the Nazis: The Sharps' War
A film directed by Ken Burns and Artemis Joukowsky

Defying the Nazis: The Sharps' War is an account of a daring rescue mission that began on the precipice of World War II. It tells the story of Waitstill and Martha Sharp, a Unitarian minister and his wife from Wellesley, Massachusetts, who left their children behind in the care of their parish and boldly committed to multiple life-threatening missions in Europe. Over two dangerous years they helped to save hundreds of imperiled political dissidents and Jewish refugees fleeing the Nazi occupation across Europe.

Artemis Joukowsky, III first learned of his grandparents' amazing story as a student in 1976 when he was assigned to write a report on moral courage. He was encouraged by his mother to speak to his grandparents about their time in Europe during the war. These initial interviews led him to his life's work of sharing the Sharps' story with others. Joukowsky has gone on to become a filmmaker and private investor who has acted as a venture capitalist, asset advisor, entrepreneur, non-profit activist and film director and producer for the past 30 years.

Join us for a screening followed by a Q&A and book signing with Mr. Joukowsky.
