Some people expect to be overwhelmed by having access to centuries of knowledge when they enter a library. Others see a library visit as a necessary pit stop on the way to their final destination. Internet giants seem to offer an alternative to both groups. So will libraries survive in the 21st century, and if so what should they look like?

Gerald R. Beasley is the recently-appointed Carl A. Kroch University Librarian at Cornell University. An English Literature graduate of Oxford University, Gerald was formerly Director of the Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library at Columbia University (2004-2008) and has also held leadership positions at the Canadian Centre for Architecture, Montreal; Concordia University, Montreal; and University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada.

6:00pm reception; 6:30pm lecture, gratis. Members and guests are invited to dine at The Club with Mr. Beasley following the lecture. The cost is $45 per person, inclusive of tax, gratuity and one glass of wine with dinner. Dinner reservations are required 48 hours prior to the program. Same-day cancellations and no shows will be charged.
