Japanese Restorative Massage is a full-body, deep-tissue form of Asian body work. Based on principles of traditional Chinese medicine, the full-body massage, or kata, includes predefined sets of movements, pressure protocols, and sequences that address overall bodily harmony, balance, and specific physical conditions. Eastern benefits of the massage include stimulation and balance of energy, blood, and body fluids. Western benefits include stress relief and the stimulation of tissue healing making for outstanding sports massage and pain relief.

Acupuncture is based on the manipulation of the free flow of qi (energy flow) through specific channels and can be used to treat any and all types of chronic and acute pain and discomfort regardless of origin. It is a highly effective means of relieving stress and tension, and promoting a general sense of well being. There is little to no discomfort involved in treatment, and reactions to treatment vary from patient to patient—and even from treatment to treatment—with the most common subjective sensation reported being a pleasant sense of enhanced relaxation (many patients actually fall asleep!). Initial treatment time typically takes 90 minutes, including an evaluation. Regular sessions take approximately one hour depending on the specific treatment. All treatments and information gathered are subject to New York State medical privacy laws. Contact Norman Bey, Director of the Health & Fitness Center, at 212.692.1360.
